Northern Lights Cafe
About This Spot
Nestled at the northern edge of the UCLA campus, Northern Lights Cafe offers a quietly reassuring pause amid the buzz of student life. From the moment you step inside, there’s a comforting stillness that feels like a gentle breath between classes. The soft murmur of conversations blends with the clink of cups and the familiar warmth of a fireplace, inviting you to settle in no matter the hour.
Beyond its role as a simple coffee stop, this cafe hums with a steady, unhurried rhythm that suits late mornings and early afternoons alike. It’s the kind of place where you might find a mix of students hunched over laptops, friends catching up over coffee, and quiet moments spent savoring a bowl of soup on a crisp day. The atmosphere is casual and unpretentious, touched by the subtle familiarity of a local haunt that’s part of daily routines yet still holds little surprises.
The menu feels thoughtfully curated to nourish both body and mind, with warm dishes and refreshing treats that invite you to linger. Whether it’s a spicy poke bowl that balances freshness and heat or the comforting richness of a turkey meatball panini, the food furthers a sense of relaxed satisfaction rather than rush. And for those seeking a pick-me-up, there’s the rhythmic familiarity of iced lattes and a rotating selection of pastries to accompany coffee breaks between lectures.
Seating arrangements invite connection without demanding it, offering lively spots with friends or corners for solitary reflection. The cafe’s connection to the broader student center extends its reach, offering a varied yet cohesive selection that caters to different moods and moments throughout the day.
Whether you’re stepping in from a chilly morning or wrapping up the day’s last class, Northern Lights Cafe feels like a quietly dependable companion—a place where the pace slows just enough to catch your breath and savor the local hum of campus life.

Northern Lights Cafe is a nice spot on the north end of UCLA campus where you can get some yogurt, coffee and other treats. Also has a little fireplace for those chilly days! Connected to the north campus student center where a broader menu of prepared foods and a salad bar provides additional options for chow time.

As a college student, the first and last thing you'll always need is coffee. This place is open very early and is conveniently very close to other classrooms, meaning you can run for a coffee before, during, or after class for a quick pick-me-up! They also serves frozen yogurt, paninis (which rotate every day) and pastries alongside a large selection of coffees. While they close halfway through the day, it is still a great place to meet up for a quick conversation or a study session.

This is a popular place for UCLA students to grab a bite between classes. There is a coffeehouse inside, a frozen yogurt section, and a cafeteria inside here. There are lots of places to sit and eat at although it might be tough finding a spot at first. If you are cold, there is also a fireplace in the center where you can sit.
